ABOUT PILATES REFORMER

Pilates Reformer is one of the most effective ways to build strength from the inside out. Using spring-based resistance, each movement challenges the core in a controlled, low-impact way that improves posture, increases muscle tone and builds stability that supports you in everyday life. The Reformer offers a unique blend of strength and mobility training, helping you move with greater ease, balance and coordination—whatever your starting point.

It’s also a powerful tool for rehabilitation and injury prevention. The Reformer’s adaptable design allows exercises to be tailored to your body, supporting safe alignment while restoring functional movement patterns. Over time, you’ll notice increased flexibility, a deeper mind-body connection and the confidence that comes from feeling stronger, more capable, and more at home in your body.

BEGINNER

An entry-level practice to appreciate and understand the basics whilst working your way around the Reformer. Building up confidence on the equipment, this is a slower-paced and more approachable class, but this can make it challenging in its own right, using the Classical Reformer Sequence as a base to move from. For anyone new to us, we recommend a beginner's approach to appreciating the Reformer and what it can do for you.

ALL LEVELS

Suitable for all levels, we allow 2 beginners in this class who have not been on the Reformer before, but we recommend you do 4 weeks of Beginners classes first. We match the pace of the class to the student's abilities who attend, some days it will be fast and intense, and other days, slower and with fewer movements involved. As such, you get a good cross-section and variation of practices.

INTERMEDIATE

A faster-paced class with more of the Classical Intermediate Series taught or blended into your practice. This is a much more challenging class, and we only allow a maximum of 1 beginner with a high level of fitness into this class who has never been on the Reformer before. We recommend you do 4 weeks of beginner's classes to get familiar with the apparatus and movements.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

ANDREW OBORNE

A bad case of sciatica led me to Stuart and the SRC. Not sure where I would be without him? His enthusiasm and knowledge have been most welcome and have given me more positivity that I can get back to some sort of fitness.

HELEN NATASHA

I was in excruciating pain and couldn't walk. Consultants struggled to understand what was wrong and told me a spinal op was the answer. I wasn't convinced and heard about The MAT Clinic. Stuart immediately knew what was wrong. I walked home from my first consultation pain free! Following a programme to strengthen my back, I have since climbed Scafell Pike and ran all the way down!

DAMIEN RICHARDS

Stuart is an absolute genius and has sorted out issues and injuries with both of my shoulders, neck and lower back during my sessions over the past 2 years. This has helped me feel better at work, at the gym and in virtually all aspects of everyday life.
